The huge percentage of people who are trilingual - cantonese, mandarin, english.
People’s tendency to push - A LOT - without saying ‘excuse me’ when they are in large crowds (aka the subway or trying to fit into an elevator…)
Everyone’s disposable income being so high - I guess it may be because I’m here during Christmas, but I always see people coming out of Chanel and Burberry with huge bags…and today was Christmas Day and the malls were FILLED with people. Why wouldn’t they be spending Christmas at home?! Shopping during the holidays seems like a huge family outing. Even on days that weren’t the holidays, people are always SHOPPING! Consumerism defines Hong Kong.
The quality of the food at food courts in malls is AMAZING…or am I just a noob?!
Food is so cheap…so so cheap! I can eat a pretty delicious meal with my mom and the total will always come out to be <$20. Breakfast usually comes out to be <$7 for 2 bowls of noodle soup and eggs and bread :O
Everything is so clean! This is something I’m not used to about overpopulated, urban Asian cities. There’s also not that many trash cans either! Amazing.
The subway is amazingly complex but at the same time easy to use and understand. Once you use it for one day, you can get through it exponentially faster the next. It’s also like another underground city! It’s always bustling with people, even at 11pm at night. It connects virtually all parts/islands of Hong Kong. Sooo convenient.
The rudeness of a lot of waiters/waitresses. The majority of them have been super rude and impatient to my mom when she wants to ask them follow up questions about what dishes are or if she wants to ask them where they recommend us visiting in Hong Kong. I have a feeling this dgaf attitude can be attributed to the fact that no one in the service industry gets tips…so I guess they don’t have to gaf about people. It was really hard to get used to and I often wanted to slap a bitch -_-
To be continued…?!
